In 1867, the official designation of the officer in charge of the Hill Tracts of Chittagong was changed from Superintendent to Deputy Commissioner and he was vested with full control of all matters pertaining both to revenue and justice. In 1868, head quarter of the district was transferred from Chandraghona to Rangamati for administrative reasons.
